I have always loved to draw and paint, but I was drawn to make functional pottery because I wanted to create something tangible and useful. It didn’t take long before I started experimenting with using sculptural and carved design elements to bring artistic expression to my pottery. Over time, that experimentation grew into a practice centered around creating functional wares with expressive, unique surface designs.

I'm the artist behind @annacanart. I’m an independent artist based in Santa Cruz, California, where I create pottery out of my private coastal studio. I’ve been playing with clay for over eight years, and working as a full-time artist for almost six.
My practice is centered around creating functional, handmade pieces with sculptural or painted elements inspired by the California coastal environment. My work is made for everyday use, while each piece also exists as a small work of art.
